Today, 8th of August, 2022, Prof Abel Makubi, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health had a meeting with Dr Tolga Tolunay, Deputy Minister for Health of the Republic of Turkey. The meeting held at the Ministry of Health in Ankara discussed areas of cooperation in the health sector between Tanzania and Turkey.
Prof Makubi conveyed greetings to Dr Tolunay from Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan , President of the United Republic of Tanzania and Hon Ummy Mwalimu, Minister of Health.
The two high level officials agreed to cooperate in providing specialized and super specialized training to Tanzanian medical personnels and provide treatment to patients referred to Turkey in medical services not available in Tanzania, digital health systems, investments in health service delivery through Public-Private Partnership, infrastructure and domestic production of health commodities. Prof Makubi and Dr. Tolunay agreed to start with immediate effect the implementation of MoU that was signed in 2017.
Prof Makubi and his delegation had an opportunity of being presented to the 22-year Turkey Health Sector reforms including expansion and modernization of health care system, implementation of the universal health insurance and capacity building for highly specialized medical services. Other areas presented were on the use of digital health system where patients records are digitalized countrywide and there is electronic tracking of the pharmaceutical supply chain systems.
TheTanzanian delegation was also taken through the Electronized-Turkey Emergency Medical System used by the Ministry of Health in coordinating and tracking emergencies and ambulance services countrywide.
Prof Makubi and Dr. Tolunay agreed to formulate a technical committee that will coordinate and monitor implementation of deliberations made during the meeting.
Prof Makubi was accompanied by Hassan Mwamweta, Acting Ambassador of Tanzania to Turkey and other Government Officials.
