Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office dealing with Policy, Parliamentary Affairs, and Coordination, Hon. Ummy Nderiananga, leads the United Republic of Tanzania delegation at the Third Global Disability Summit, taking place in Berlin, Germany, from April 2-3, 2025.
The summit is jointly organized by the International Disability Alliance (IDA), the Government of Germany, and the Government of Jordan and was officially opened by the Chancellor of Germany, H.E. Olaf Scholz, and His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan.
In his opening remarks, H.E. Scholz emphasized the importance of international cooperation in promoting the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
“Global cooperation is a crucial pillar in ensuring that the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities are fully realized worldwide. By working together—governments, international organizations, the private sector, academic institutions, civil society organizations, and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs)—we can develop effective policies and programs that guarantee equal opportunities and full participation for persons with disabilities in society,” he stated.
On his side, His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan reaffirmed his strong commitment to advancing disability rights and inclusion and underscored the significance of global partnerships in ensuring equal opportunities and full participation of persons with disabilities in all sectors of society.
The summit aims to mobilize global efforts to enhance the inclusion of persons with disabilities and bring together high-level stakeholders from governments, international organizations, the private sector, higher education institutions, civil society, and OPDs from various countries to discuss and share progress in disability inclusion.
The Global Disability Summit (GDS) is a unique international platform dedicated to improving the lives of persons with disabilities, particularly in the Global South.
Established in 2017, the summit serves as a convening space for global, regional, and national stakeholders committed to inclusive development and humanitarian action for persons with disabilities.
The summit seeks to bridge the gap between disability inclusion and development cooperation, ensuring that both aspects are integrated into national and international agendas.
The Global Disability Summit held every three years provides a continuous advocacy platform for disability-inclusive development while fostering a global movement for the rights of persons with disabilities and their partners.
The summit explores ways to strengthen collaboration between member states and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) through joint planning initiatives and strategic partnerships.
